CATTON ARBORETUM

Tilia platyphyllos Laciniata

Common name: Large-leaved Lime

Year planted: 2022

Country of origin: origin of the cultivar unknown

Year introduced: 1844

Description: In the UK this cultivar is most commonly found in arboretums and private collections. It is a tree however whose form which is conical or pyramidal, its size small to medium in height and its ability to survive urban environments, lend it potentially to street tree planting. Identification of this tree is best carried out when it is in full leaf. The leaves are often smaller that the common name might suggest, dark green, narrow and irregularly lobed. No leaves are the same and often have been described as having a ragged appearance. Undoubtably a very interesting tree!
